Responsible for vendor correspondence for projects under the positions responsibility.

 

Performs other duties and assignments as required.

 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Receives immediate supervision from the Telecommunications Analyst Senior. Expected to perform daily and routine tasks with a limited of supervision. Initiative and decision making are encouraged with results to be reviewed by immediate supervisor.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

By the nature of the position, exercises indirect supervision of telephone end users and vendors.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

College degree in related area and a minimum of one year's experience in the field of voice communications or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Should have exposure to large telephone systems, Public Service Commission tariffs, telephone company order procedures and computer‑produced telephone bills. Verifies accuracy of service requests between field engineers and departments. Prepares invoices for departmental billing and forwards to billing office. Assists with procuring, auditing and allocation of all aspects of telephone bills. Verifies counts of hardware for switches and prepares reports for equipment inventory. Assumes the responsibilities for the billing manager in her absence.

 

This position requires contact with all the organizations' departments when designing a system or for telephone training of new employees.

 

This position is responsible for making the flow of voice communications as smooth as possible for all departments.

Weekly, the Assistant Director and the Voice Systems Analyst will meet to review the status of all current projects and the strategic plans for upcoming projects.

Provides the organization community with operational support for networking through coordination, monitoring, consultation, and troubleshooting. The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Network Operations Center. This position also assists the Manager of Data Communication Services designing networks and providing for the integration of these networks into the organizations internet.

 

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position of Network Analyst provides technical expertise and support to the Manager of Data Communication Services in the day-to-day operation of the Network Operation Center. There is a need to consistently monitor the configuration and performance of the growing campus network. A need also exists for immediate troubleshooting of network problems as they arise.

 

This position is faced with a rapidly advancing industry involving highly technical equipment and issues. This position must understand the needs of the organizations user community as they relate to data communications and must recommend satisfactory solutions from the data communications industry. The position must understand and be able to relate principles of management of information resources. The ability to work with technical and non-technical people is critical to the success of this position.

 

As an ad-hoc member of the Organization's Network Management Team, this position assists in making necessary decisions involved in designing and recommending departmental networks, intra-building networks, and organization-wide networks. The position keeps the Manager informed of the status of all projects and major problems and of advances in technology. All budget expenditures are reviewed by the Manager.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

 

      1.               Coordinate Day-to-Day Operations of the Network Operations Center.

 

                  -                 Provide technical assistance to network users.

                  -                 Troubleshoot network problems.

                  -                 Monitor organization network services and ensure continued availability.

Should have working knowledge of LANs, Common Carriers, synchronous and asynchronous protocols. Proficiency in at least one higher level programming language. Experience in SNA, X.25 and DNA desirable. Ability to interface with users and staff and possess good oral and written communicative skills. Must be able to work in stressful situations and willing to work flexible hours.
