JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS

BASIC FUNCTION:
Plans, organizes and
directs the functions and activities of the organization owned voice/data
communications systems.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage technical and
clerical personnel and supervise vendor activities; oversee overall technical
integrity of systems, including maintenance of adequate equipment inventory,
maintenance of premise distribution system, and development and implementation
of system enhancements; provide voice/data technical support and training to
staff and end users; provide for the adequate development or acquisition of
training materials, end user aids, and help desk functions; plan and maintain
communications budget and accounting/billing chargeback system; conduct
analysis, prepare reports, and develop recommendations for management; function
as project manager for communications in new building/remodel projects; publish
an annual telephone directory; develop and maintain a professional work order
system for repairs and enhancements. Perform other related management functions
as assigned.
The Director also
serves in the administrative capacity as a Department Head and is responsible
for the organization's allocation of communications budget.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Performs under the
general direction of the Vice President for Information Systems and Computing.
SUPERVISION
EXERCISED:
Responsible for the
management and review of all technical and clerical personnel in department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Equivalent to a four-year
college degree in business, telecommunications, public administration, or a
related field is required. A Bachelor's or Master's Degree is preferred. Six
years of progressively responsible related professional experience including
two years as a supervisor/manager. Additional qualifying experience may
substitute for the required education on a year-to-year basis. Must possess a
well rounded background in telecommunications with a strong emphasis on
technical aspects of managing large voice/data communications systems; must possess management skill and the
ability to interface with all levels of Organization personnel; strong verbal
and written skills required; direct experience with integrated voice/data
switching systems is preferred.
