JOB TITLE:        CORPORATE TELECOMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide leadership in telecommunications, evaluate the corporate business plan and strategy as it applies to the corporate communications environment, and document strategic and tactical requirements.

 

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Develop corporate policies and procedures for communications services; document existing corporate communications systems and how they support the corporate business plan and objectives; inventory of existing voice and data hardware and software, list of current vendors and documentation of master contracts, list of corporate objectives and how they are supported by existing communications systems.

 

2.      Review ongoing costs of corporate communications system, and break down these costs by function and department.

 

3.      Develop corporate voice and date communications systems requirements; monitor the performance and document the available capacity of the corporate data and voice communica­tions systems.

 

4.      Document and evaluate corporate projections in growth and diversification; analyze competitive communications strategies and capabilities, and develop comparison charts to illustrate relative strengths and weaknesses of each vendor.

 

5.      Evaluate and document alternative technologies that may better satisfy the corporate communications environment, and develop implementation plans for selected alternatives.

 

6.      Monitor regulatory and technical developments within the communications industry and evaluate their impact upon the corporate communications environment.

 

7.      Identify new products that may benefit corporate voice and data communications, and develop strategies to integrate these products into the existing communications environment.

 

8.      Act as consultant or advisor to the various divisions and subsidiaries within Organization. In this capacity, the corporate telecommunications director may be called upon by divisions to assist in the evaluation of communications strategies, hardware and software, vendor proposals, new products and vendor contracts.

 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the President of the organization. Expected to work toward fulfilling organizational goals and objectives by working with other Directors and Senior personnel.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Provides direct supervision over departments of responsibility. Includes the provision of both operating and capital budgets and the management of same.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal qualifications will include an advanced degree in Business, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 10 years experience in the operation and maintenance of a large scale, integrated telecommunications system. Equivalent work experience or education can be substituted for an advance college degree with a BS or BA required. Must provide evidence of increased managerial responsibility and technical growth. Ability to join business and technical needs of organization with a view toward organization efficiency and competitiveness. Accounting or financial background helpful. Must possess excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with voice mail/processing/respo­nse technologies a plus.
