JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF SUPPORT OPERATIONS

BASIC FUNCTION:
The Director of
Support Operations provides the planning, direction and management for data
communications, voice communications, and computer operations.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is the
primary organization-wide coordinator for the development and implementation of
the proposed enhanced organizational telecommunications and computer systems.
In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination and appropriate
coordination of the technical support groups to serve more effectively the
needs of the organization; the review of resource utilization and the
initiation of procedures for improvement; provide technical and corporate
evaluation relating to the acquisition of computer and communications
equipment; the application of cost/benefit analysis to current and proposed
applications and systems; the organization, structuring and overall personnel
management for reporting groups; the development of budgets and maintaining the
fiscal viability of reporting units; the development and enforcement of
procedures and policies; establishment of priorities and; recruitment,
development and supervision of personnel. The director will perform special
projects and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports to the Vice
President of Information Services. Participates with and is a member of several
standing organizational computing and telecommunications committees.
SUPERVISION
EXERCISED:
Direct supervision of
managers and staff in areas of responsibility. Provides direct supervision of
an expense budget in excess of $10 million.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A four college degree
is required in related technical field or Business Management/Business
Administration, plus a minimum of eight years of progressive experience in the
management of complex organizational structures with a minimum of five years
experience within a large scale corporate or academic
computer/telecommunications environment, or equivalent combination of education
and work experience. Requires excellent administrative, management, financial
and budgetary skills, ability to lead computer, telecommunications and other
technical professionals, and willingness and expertise to work effectively with
a variety of people on all levels. Requires excellent oral and written
communication skills.
